Early Repairs

We have been on the road for just over a month and have begun to settle into the “on the road” style of life. After our first few weeks of having the trailer in Nanaimo and on Denman Island there were a few factory defects that were starting to show. Little bits of trim had come unattached, the toilet had sprung a leak and the rear facing dinette bench had detached itself from the wall of the slide.

Moochdocking

This past week we found some friends that were nice enough to let us come visit and park our RV on their property. This was our second location to park our RV in and the first time that we would be staying in our RV while not in a campground. In most campgrounds if we plan ahead we have luxury of having support infrastructure such as power, water and sewer.

Our First Week

We have completed our first full week in our new home and although we thought we had been doing a lot of research along the way, clearly the learning is just beginning. Little things that most of us just take for granted in our modern homes and apartments like setting the thermostat and forgetting about it for the next few months isn’t something that is part of RV life.

We’re on the Road

This past week was the last week of living simultaneously in our new trailer home and our Victoria apartment. We’ve driven hundreds of kilometers around Vancouver Island, spending some nights in Nanaimo to attend Emily’s driving lessons and rushing back to Victoria to pack our apartment, working towards bringing that chapter of our journey to a close.

Fear of Towing a Fifth Wheel

So how was it after the first time towing? I almost wanted to run away right before the departure when they told me to get into the truck to get the fifth wheel hitched. First left turn getting out of the dealer’s parking lot was the most scary part as I had no idea how my fifth wheel was following the truck.

The Road Ahead

This valentine’s day mine and Emily’s gifts to each other is a brand-new fifth wheal RV trailer. On Monday the 14th we are taking possession of our RV. From there we have three days to move everything that we are taking with us from our apartment into the RV. On Thursday the 17th we’re heading out on our first adventure. We’ll be taking our entire rig up north to Nanaimo BC to learn how to drive with an extra 30 feet behind our truck. The only challenge will be getting to the driving school without any previous lessons.

Back on the Trail(er)

The roller-coaster ride and anxiety of last weekend is over. Although it is true that our trailer is heavier than we originally expected it’s not nearly as bad. It turns out that there was a clerical error.

Staying Connected

A big focus has been trying to figure out the costs and logistics of having a solid internet connection out on the road. Living in a residential home it’s easy to take for granted calling up your local internet provider, paying ninety nine dollars a month and having high speed internet. Out on the road staying connected with fast and reliable internet is an involved process.

A Beginning in Sight

Emily and I ordered our trailer back in September. After months of waiting, we got the call last week that Rockwood has finally shipped our trailer and it should be arriving here in Victoria BC by the end of the month. This means it’s time to step our planning into high gear and if all goes to plan hit the road at the end of February.

Why Yuzu?

When Emily and I decided that we wanted to take a year and travel North America we started looking for pickup trucks to pull our trailer. When we eventually found our truck, it only seemed natural to name her Yuzu. Our trip then followed suite and Yuzu Travel was born.

Welcome to Yuzu Travel

Hello World,

This year in 2022 I’m starting a blog to share my travel adventures with the world. My Partner and I took a trip to Tofino last spring and it was one of the absolute most amazing times of my life. It started this thought in the back of my head that maybe one day I could work and travel allowing me to always be on an adventure.
