A Beginning in Sight

Emily and I ordered our trailer back in September. After months of waiting, we got the call last week that Rockwood has finally shipped our trailer and it should be arriving here in Victoria BC by the end of the month. This means it’s time to step our planning into high gear and if all goes to plan hit the road at the end of February.

There are so many things to learn and take in about RV life that neither of us had fully considered before embarking on this journey. For example, we have had to learn about electrical systems, power grids, RV sewers, RV toilet paper, cellular internet and truck and trailer towing capacity. Over the next 6 weeks Emily and I must plan everyday of our life for the next 3 to 6 months from where we will be spending the night to what roads our rig can fit down and what gas stations we can fill up at. We must carefully decide every item that we’ll need and want on our trip and pair all our belongings down to 1,642lbs (744kg) which is the maximum amount of weight that we can legally carry in our trailer with our current driver license after subtracting the dry weight of our trailer. We must pack our apartment and either sell or put in storage anything that we will not be brining on our trip. It’s a lot of planning and staying on task but it’s getting so exciting. This trip has been a long time coming. We must often breath and remember to live in the moment as so much of our time right now is focused in the future. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the challenges ahead and create unnecessary stress in the moment. It’s been very important that we always take a moment and remember that by taking on one task at a time we can work through our challenges without creating stress.

The trip is getting very close, and we are so looking forward to being able to drag our home behind us and wake up to a different background every morning.
